Asset Map of West Fresno Project FWCED was awarded grant funds for the Asset Map of West Fresno by The California Endowment. In collaboration with the City of Fresno, FWCED's objective for the Asset Map of West Fresno is to compile all relevant assets of the 93706 zip code. With input from West Fresno residents, research from this project will be used to present economic and community development proposals for the West Fresno area to public and private agencies.
A winner of the 2005 American Planner Association, California Chapter award for community plan, The Vision Plan was the a community-led planning effort. In 2003, FWCED hosted a weekend planning charettee that was attended bya cross section of 750 residents, business owners and community-wide stakeholders. The Plan was later adopted by the Fresno Council of Governments and the Fresno City Coucnil. Not only did City Council accept the Plan but has made signficant steps towards implementing it since 2004.
Community Partners included FWCED, Fresno Council of Governments, Walkable Communities and Caltrans.
Incentive Zones: Empowerment, Enterprise & Municipal Restoration
Most of West Fresno (93706) is in both a Federal-designated Empowerment Zone and a state-designated Enterprise Zone. In conjunction, with our Fresno Works for Better Health partners and the City's Economic Development Department, FWCED has communicated the message about the business tax credits to nearly 10,000 individuals.
FWCED has also successfully advocated for the expansion of the Enterprise Zone in southwest Fresno to include more businesses including have input on the Mayor's establsihed Municipal Restoration Zone.
The Report was the result of a 90-day taskforce of 12 individuals selected by Fresno's Mayor Alan Autry to make recommednation on how the City can retain, support and foster creaitve professionals and knowledge workers in Fresno's economy. FWCED was selected to participate in the Council.
